Overnight Ratings - Monday 1/16/06

TV Arts

Tiny
TD Note: Due to Berman's break, from now until January 30th
the ratings will be fast nationals coming from Zap2it.com. Thus,
there will be no extended fast affiliate data (other than the network
numbers for adults 18-49). And, as long as they're available,
I'll be posting last week's overnights in brackets for general
comparison purposes only.

Here are some numbers from Variety:

Globes, '24' top Monday
Morning Ratings Flash - Rick Kissell

By RICK KISSELL

The Golden Globes kudocast rebounded from its NBC low set one year ago,
helping the Peacock capture Monday in key ratings categories. Fox held tough
with two hours of "24," as the thriller continues to perform at record
levels kicking off its fifth season.

According to preliminary nationals from Nielsen, the "63rd Annual Golden
Globe Awards" averaged a 6.3 rating/15 share in adults 18-49 and 18.7
million viewers overall from 8 to 11 p.m., an 11% improvement in the demo
over last year, when the kudocast fell sharply to its lowest scores since
moving to NBC in 1996. Show shifted to Monday to avoid the "Desperate
Housewives" powerhouse on ABC as well as any conflicts with the NFL
playoffs.

At Fox, the second night of its four-hour season premiere of "24""24"
performed very well, scoring a 5.6/13 in adults 18-49 and 14 million viewers
overall from 8 to 9, and then a 6.3/14 in the demo and 15.7 million viewers
in its regular 9 o'clock slot. "24" won its time period in key male demos,
and its two-hour 18-49 average on Monday (5.9/13) repped a big 18% gain over
last year's 5.0/12.

CBS placed third with an all-repeat lineup, led as usual by "CSI:
Miami""CSI: Miami" (4.7/11 in 18-49, 14.3 million viewers overall) and "Two
and a Half Men""Two And A Half Men" (4.7/10, 13.4 million viewers overall).

And ABC improved at 10 with "The Bachelor""The Bachelor" (3.6/9 in 18-49,
7.8 million viewers overall), which performed better with a repeat of the
previous week's episode as its lead-in. Kicking off the night, "Wife Swap"
placed third (3.9/9 in 18-49, 9.3 million viewers overall), behind the
Globes and "24."

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: NBC, 6.3/15; Fox, 5.9/13; CBS,
4.0/9; ABC, 3.5/8; UPNUPN, 1.2/3; WB, 0.7/2.

No worries, thanks for posting 'em! It's become a sickness for me, hun.
I see all those pretty little numbers, I just go straight to autopilot and
reformat them all. I blame Berman, and Ian, and David, and ... ;-)

Variety and Hollywood Reporter would be two fabulous magazines to
subscribe to (paper versions), but expensive and you have to be a real
hardcore entertainment industry enthusiast to subscribe to them. I am
(so into the entertainment/broadcasting industry), but I don't subscribe.

Hmmm ... I tried reading the full article containing the ratings and
was offered the choice of a free 30 day (or 60, I forget now) trial

Maybe you're clicking on the wrong thing? Don't click on where it says
"do you want to read the full story?" Click below the clipping where
it says "read the article for free... click here."

Well, by golly, where did that come from?! Seems to work, David,
thanks for the tip. I'll keep an eye on them while Berman's away
to help fill in some of the blanks anyway.

Cheers,

The fact that you're in Canada, I'm guessing.

If you're IP address is Stateside, they probably give you the
ad-for-free-viewing option; outside the states, I'm guessing they only
give your the Subscribe!! option.

Taylor
I'm in Canada and I get that gotta subscribe option. I can't also view
the stupid Showtime (Sho.com) website, either. Viacom cocksuckers.

You and Ian should switch lives. You'll get to have Variety and Ian
will have his fill of Canadian teen soap-operas.

Hmm...? President George W. Bush? Prime Minister Stephen Harper? Is
there a third alternative here?

I did the Canada residency thing once upon a time. I'm over it.

Ian (But I wouldn't be upset if an American cable net would deign to
air the 5th season of "Edgemont" or the series "15/Love"... :p )
