"I said over a year ago that this was going to be, this presidential race,
Lawrence, was going to be the ugliest, the nastiest, the most divisive, and
the most racist in the history of this Republic," PBS host Tavis Smiley said
on MSNBC.

it can hardly be otherwise, with a black president running against a
party still using its Southern strategy of appealing to latent and
blatant racism. The whole Birtherist nonsense that grips the GOP is a
simple displacement for the idea that a black man can never be a
"real" American.

I haven't heard one racist thing that any Republican candidate has
said. Unless you think just opposing Obama itself is a racist act?

The real racist is Smiley!

Not their department--they leave it to the flunkies:

But the entire Birther movement is nothing more than a refusal to
accept Obama as a legitimate American president. Who else had to deal
with this nonsense? Has it occurred to any of these morons that
opponents like Hilary Clinton and Karl Rove--the embodiments of
hardball in both parties--would have seized upon this issue if it had
a shred of validity?

Who was it who commented on how artiulate Obama is for a black person
when he first ran for president?

tomcervo
Actually, it was Joe Biden who said that Obama was articulate--he
didn't say "for a black person". That was the product of that sump you
call a consciousness.

And thank you for making the point.
