What Did You Watch? 2010-10-21 (Thursday)

TV Arts

David
I watched:

Phineas and Ferb

P and F visit a convention where fans of a movie series which is like
"Star Wars" are about to go to war with fans of a movie series like
"Harry Potter". Mind you since the war involves a lot of dice rolling
and "pyoo-pyoo" noises, this does not seem to be a major problem to
me. But the martial song was OK.

The Mentalist

Horses. I thought it was a better one than the rest of this season
has been. But then the sucky Red John episodes drag the rating
down.

Vampire Diaries

Holy crap this show has a significant death toll.

Poirot

Poirot seems to have been invited into a Sherlock Holmes story, the
one where Sherlock breaks into a house to rob a blackmailer. Holmes
actually did some rather sketchy stuff. In the Poirot tv script, I
found Poirot to be surprisingly gullible when faced with some pretty
blatant manipulation and nearly spends years in prison as a result.

Law and Order U.K.

Woman tries to wriggle out of murder rap by claiming she was defending
herself from rape, and the public goes nuts because they were
different races. I think in the L&O version of this, the female shrink
pretty much ended her career because her own experience with
molestation led her to be taken in by the accused. Goes a little
different in the UKverse seeing as how it was the female prosecutor,
not the shrink and she's a regular.

THE O'REILLY FACTOR:
• 'Factor' exclusive! Juan Williams responds to NPR firing. You won't
   want to miss it
• Plus, what's behind George Soros' million-dollar war against Fox
   News? Karl Rove analyzes

THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF DC:
"Reunion, part 2". Wow, I loathe the DC gatecrashers even more now.
What a pair of delusional grifter fame whores!

IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA:
"Mac's Mom Burns Her House Down". Frank tries to get Dee and Dennis to
promise to care for him when he gets old. Meanwhile, Charlie and Mac try
to get get Mac's mother to move in with Charlie's mother. BWAH! The two
eventually become united by their fear of the "moslems across the
street".

THE LEAGUE:
Taco tricks the jewish guy who reminds me of Jeff Bloomburg into
throwing an anniversry party for his wife on the night of the big game.
Damn, this ep was FUNNY! I think my fav part was Taco's "behind the
scenes" wedding video.

Shat My Dad Says:
Wow. This is just ... horrible. A new character appears, and we're
supposed to think he's been there forever, and the stupid gay son spends
the episode saying The Shat broke his own rule, when he didn't, and then
The Shat is forced to be Jack Tripper at a funeral while the gay son
makes out with Donna Summer's daughter. Look, The Shat has a NO
BORROWING MY STUFF WITHOUT ASKING rule. It's HIS FREAKING HOUSE. The
gay son not only takes The Shat's favorite coffee mug, he takes it to
the Farmer's Market? Why??? And they actually managed to make the
funny son and daughter in law not funny this week.

Outsourced:
This was even worse; I'm done.

Community:
I enjoyed it, but it was might near impossible to explain to somebody
not into film.

I am guessing he is VERY unclear about the term "teabagging".

KoshN
The paramedic? BFD. what, they can't introduce new characters,
peripheral characters???

who evidently doesn't think he's gay?

Why would a gay son do that? Maybe he's not gay. Maybe he's a stupid
slacker?

I thought The Shat was GREAT in this episode. Best ep. so far.

You guys just *love* to pick stuff apart and find fault. It's a
wonder you ever like anything. Just sit back and enjoy the situation
comedy. Shat killed.

No.

he's the only one. The coffee shop girl seemed pretty certain too.

He's a stupid gay slacker, and, given that everything he says is wrong,
either a habitual liar or mentally ill.

The Shat is great. The show is terrible.

Sorry for the context snip, but this really sums up my view of the
show. Shatner has always been an icon and a joke at the same time.
And it's never been more obvious as in this putrid stab at a sitcom.
He's like a human funhouse mirror - except that he reflects the
talents of those around him. If you're Roddenberry or Nick Meyer or
David E Kelley or the guys behnd the Pricelline ads...

RWG (and Shatner ought to send them ALL Christmas cards every year)

The scary part is that the show is growing its audience every week despite
being horrible. Maybe you guys should stop watching bad stuff just so that
you can mock it?

Uh, well, that would let out Hawai'i 5.1 ...

H5-0 and the Shat show are two perfect examples of programs that deserve to
die.

I think both could be retooled into something worthwhile, but, as they
are now, yeah.

Eh, I've seen two whole episodes and parts of two others.

RWG (even if I DID watch it, I wouldn't admit it to anyone who
matterered :-)
