What would make it great to have James T. Kirk as best man at your wedding ?

If you were getting married and had to have James T. Kirk as your best
man
(whether it's the Bill Shatner or Chris Pine, younger or older version
is irrelevant, but it'd have to be him and no one else, although other
Trek characters can also be present), what for you would (seriously or
humorously) be the best thing about it, in terms of any humorously or
creatively witty comment/s or thing/s you'd most like
Mr. Kirk to say or do at the ceremony.

Getting married? I'm a eunuch, and quite accepting of this nowadays.

If gays can marry, why can't eunuchs?

There *used* to be rules about not letting people marry if
they couldn't fulfill the marital act. I don't know about
now.

Harry has joined the Catholic church, which does have such rules.
Among other things, if your spouse gets surgically sterilized you
can use that as grounds for obtaining an annulment.

A few weeks of testosterone shots and some PDE-5 drugs, and I'd imagine the
lack of testicles would be no impediment to the act itself, only to
pregnancy resulting from it.

PDE5 (phosphodiesterase type five) inhibitor drugs. The best known
are probably Viagra and Cialis.

They might not even be necessary, depending on the individual.

I'm remembering a line now from an old old Niven story:
~"My girlfriend's father went out hunting with friends;
got drunk on the way home and decided to ride the hood
of the car like a horse. Sudden stop; our hero left a
couple of important glands on the hood ornament. The
only change in his sex life was that his wife stopped
worrying about unplanned pregnancy. His *habits* were
established."~

Wow. I've tried twice to post a response after looking up the term.
Neither one has appeared here (on Google Groups). So it's possible
some of you are seeing this for the first time, some for the 3rd. I
finally realized that my post was probably being stopped by a spam
filter of some kind.

The term refers to ED drugs, the Pfizer one and its cousins. I don't
see though, how they are needed for this use, barring any underlying
disease.

Viagra and its relatives (I had to look it up). I don't see why they
would help, absent some kind of ED disorder.

IOW, Viagra and its cousins.

Though, barring specific ED conditions, its hard to see how they would
be required.

Hmmm....need to check with my Priest about that. In any case, with no
sex drive, I lack motivation.

I know that, and you know that. But if a marriage cannot be consumated
in a way that could p[roduce children, is it valid? CF the Catholic
Church's on gay marriages.

I suppose, in theory, I might marry some woman who understands my
situation. Maybe. Perhaps.

pvusenetpoboxcom
That has nothing at ALL to do with why the catholic church opposes
gay marriage. That's simply rank hypocracy [1], 2000 years of
inertia, and institutional corruption that starts all the way at the top.

the catholic church has grounds for anullment of marriage if it was never
consummated. But that has absolutely no effect on the legal instrument of
marriage - hey, look at that, the state version has more reponsibility
attached than the religious one.

Of course you could! Some dumbass representative of a belief in an
invisible sky man might not accept it, but you can always be married. *

[1] I know this is spelled wrong, but I think the spelling implies
"management by hypocrites", which couldn't fit better.

Well, what you think of religious organizations is your own business,
but I want to set you, and anyone else reading this, that you are not
giving this man the whole story.

I called a Priest friend of mine, and asked him if this statement you
made about Catholic marriage were true, and said a resounding *no*.

Once he told me there was a "dispensation" I googled, and found this
article, which he says is accurate:

http://fatherjoe.wordpress.com/instructions/catechesis/questions/impotence-marriage/

I'm not about to get into the validity of religious faith, especially
with someone so hostile on the subject, but I felt compelled to
intervene with the correct information.

If you want to hate me for that, call me names, so be it.

What statement? I said that lack of consummation is grounds for annullment,
and that is positively true to this day. That doesn't mean the marriage
isn't valid if you *don't* annull it.

The catholic clergy are hypocrites of the first order. That doesn't mean
that there aren't some sincerely good people in its service, but those
people are purposely avoiding part of the doctrine, something that the pope
has threatened excommunication for if you're a mere peon. Open your eyes. *

They're wide open enough to know there's no point in discussing this
with you.

I disagree that all you spoke of was annulment, but that doesn't matter
in the grand scheme of anything.

As far as I know, if one is unable to reproduce, it is not considered a
sin. I mean, it's not your fault.

As to how women feel about impotence, there are many other ways to
provide sexual pleasure. Personally, if something happened to prevent
my husband from "performing", leaving him would be the furthest thing
from my mind - though he probably would think I was no longer attracted
to him. Men just don't get that it's not about sex with (most) of us.
